Metito to expand water treatment facility at Nakheel's International City Project
- United Arab Emirates: Thursday, May 29 - 2008 at 14:44
- PRESS RELEASE
Metito, the international desalination, water, and waste water treatment company announced that it has been appointed by Palm Water to double the existing sewage treatment plant (STP) capacity at the International City development in Dubai from 5,000 m3/d to 10,000 m3/d.
Metito will employ the state of the art Membrane Bio Reactor (MBR) technology for treating domestic sewage water which has already being pioneered at Nakheel's Palm Jumeirah project also by Metito.
The high quality effluent of both the plants will be used for landscaping and irrigation requirements at International City development in Dubai.
Speaking on wining the contract, Salah El Ackad, General Manager of Dubai and Northern Emirates said, "We are glad to be awarded the contract for the expansion of the STP at the International City project for the second consecutive time. Innovation in engineering processes is very important for us and winning this contract has a special significance as it demonstrates the trust which Nakheel has in our products and services.
He added, "The uniqueness of this expansion lies in the fact that the STP has been custom engineered to fit into the extremely limited space available within the original plant plot, while taking into consideration the constraints of this premium land development as well as the complications associated with the interfaces with the imminent permanent plant planned within the same area. The new plant will consist of six streams to treat the additional 5,000 m3/d raw sewage using the latest Membranes Bioreactor (MBR) Technology . Such timely expansion goes in tandem with the growing population of International City in Dubai."
Metito, founded in 1958, is a shining example of a Middle Eastern company that has grown to be a world leader in its field.
Metito operates locally in 14 countries of the Arab and Islamic World, and supplies its plants internationally to locations as far apart as Argentina and Australia from its base in the United Arab Emirates.
Some of the company's notable recent achievements include high purity demineralised water supply for Jebel Ali and Umm Al Nar power projects and a MBR waste water treatment plant for Al Yas Island in the UAE, and a large sea water desalination plant for The Pearl project in Qatar.
