Under the patronage of Her Highness Qatar Symphony premiers tonight

Her Highness Sheikha Mozah bint Nasser Al Missned will be present at Qatar Symphony will premier tonight at The Ritz-Carlton, Doha at 9:30pm.

A second performance will take place on Monday night.

At both events, an impressive orchestra of 80 musicians from Russia and other Eastern European countries will perform the new orchestral piece called Qatar Symphony.

Accompanying the music will be a multimedia show, adding an ambiance reminiscent of the nation's past and looking forward into the future.

The Qatar Symphony is a Qatar Foundation musical initiative composed by Dr Salem Abdul Kareem which narrates the story of Qatar.

It comprises four movements, each one expressing a particular phase in the development of Qatar: "The Beginning," "The Dream," "Challenge and Achievement," and finally "Forward."

It is the first time in the region that a classical musical piece has been composed to tell the story of a nation.

Artistically redressing Qatari folkloric melodies to fit into a classical symphony has been the highlight of the work of Dr Abdul Kareem.

However, in order to enable the Qatar Symphony to be performed at various international venues, he chose to compose this piece for western instruments only.
