  • PRESS RELEASE

The Roads & Transport Authority (RTA) staged the third free medical check-up campaign for its male and female employees at its head office at Umm Rumool.

The Health Campaign, which is part of RTA's concern for public health, aims to boost good health standards and corporate health care in collaboration with the Department of Health & Medical Services in Dubai.

Zuhair Al Saffar, Director of Health, Safety & Environment Department at RTA Strategy & Corporate Governance Sector, described the medical check-up carried out for RTA employees as an episode of ongoing health campaigns staged by the RTA to ensure the health and safety of its employees and to create a healthy atmosphere to help production.

"The free medical examination included anthropometrical measurements (height, weight and body mass calculation), as well as the percentage of cholesterol, liquid masses in the body, diabetes and blood pressure. It also included medical guidance on the importance of medical check-ups in the early detection and prevention from chronic diseases and their adverse effects. It focused on healthy habits to gain the ideal weight and avoid ailment. Educative leaflets were distributed to employees and their queries were addressed. During the Campaign there was ample elaboration of the causes of those health problems, the practices required to avoid them and the importance of regular check-ups.

"Through these campaigns, Health, Safety & Environment Department aims to shun the traditional health practices through fostering preventative culture among employees rather than the reaction culture and this could be best achieved through undergoing routine medical check-ups early on.

"RTA is contemplating a series of medical check-ups and educative programs for employees in the near future, which encompasses medical examinations tailored for female employees, such as osteoporosis test. Coordination is in hand to launch a blood donation campaign to support efforts of entities concerned with Thalassemia and Blood Bank. There will be training sessions and drills on fire fighting, evacuation and first aid in coordination with Dubai Civil Defence Department.

"The Department is considering circulating a questionnaire to identify the needs and expectations of employees to introduce new activities and programs in the field of Health, Safety & Environment. The Health Campaign was well received by RTA employees as evidenced from the number of participants compared to previous campaigns. RTA is aspiring to excel in the field of Health, Safety & Environment during the next couple of years through enhancing partnerships with other concerned entities in the public and private sector," said Al Saffar in a concluding remark.
