Emirates Skycargo and DB Schenker team up to double Dubai-US capacity

  • PRESS RELEASE

Emirates SkyCargo and Schenker AG have doubled their capacity between Dubai and Toledo, Ohio via Frankfurt-Hahn following a surge in demand from shippers across three continents.

The award winning carrier and freight forwarder added a second weekly Boeing 747-400F service between the cities to facilitate growing trade between the Asia, Europe and the US.

Emirates SkyCargo launched freighter services to Toledo, located on the western side of Lake Erie in America's Midwest, in June last year. The second Toledo service will add 120 tonnes of capacity to and from the US every week.

Hiran Perera, Emirates Senior Vice President Cargo Freighters, said: "Toledo has proved an excellent addition to Emirates SkyCargo's network.

Not only is it congestion- and curfew-free, which is a huge advantage in US, but in its vast catchment area lies many key US cities, including Chicago, Detroit, Indianapolis, Cleveland, Columbus and Cincinnati, which are served by our extensive onward connections."

The US is the world's biggest consumer country; its import market is valued at close to $2 trillion a year. Emirates SkyCargo and Schenker support the market through their transport of several high-value commodities such as pharmaceuticals, garments and automobile parts.

"Our experience over recent months has shown that the service we offer represents an interesting solution for the increasingly complex supply chains of the electronics, automotive, mechanical engineering and apparel industries," said Peter Glatz, CEO and Regional Director - Middle East & East Africa.

The air freight service is closely linked with the offer of intermodal logistics services on the main routes from Asia to Europe: SCHENKERskybridge combines the economical ocean freight costs from Asia via Dubai with the speed of air freight. As compared with pure ocean freight, this shortens transit times by as much as 50 per cent, while the costs are up to 50 per cent lower as compared with pure air freight.

Flight EK9911 from Hahn departs at 0000hrs on Friday and at 1010hrs on Sunday, touching down the same day at Toledo Express Airport at 0245hrs and 1255hrs respectively.

The outbound EK9910 leaves Toledo at 0545hrs on Friday, arriving at Hahn at 1940hrs the same day; and 1605hrs on Sunday, landing at Hahn at 0600hrs on Monday.
