Announcement of the strategy of Abu Dhabi Authority for Culture and Heritage (2008-2012)

The Abu Dhabi Authority for Culture and Heritage (ADACH) was created to take charge of the integrated management and promotion of culture and heritage in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi.

ADACH's core business areas include:

Protecting, conserving, managing and promoting the tangible cultural heritage of Abu Dhabi Emirate including archaeological sites, historic buildings, cultural landscape
and collections.

Preserving, promoting and enhancing the intangible heritage of Abu Dhabi, integrating it into people's daily lives and encouraging the practice and celebration of customs and traditions.

Fostering research and institutional collaborations in order to promote a better understanding of the culture and heritage of Abu Dhabi, the UAE and the Arab world.

Promoting the arts and encouraging creativity in literature, art, film and theatre among UAE nationals, while facilitating greater interaction between the young creative people
of the Emirate and the world.

Encouraging intellectual and literary activity in Abu Dhabi, the UAE and the Arab world by promoting, modernizing and expanding the services of the National Library
of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi and supporting research activity.

Promoting Abu Dhabi's role as a leader in the regional cultural arena by sponsoring, spearheading and influencing positively cultural development and heritage conservation
and enhancement.

Developing the legal framework for the protection, conservation, management, enhancement and promotion of the cultural resources of Abu Dhabi, taking into consideration federal and local distribution of competencies.

Coordinating cultural and heritage activities within the Emirate of Abu Dhabi in order to avoid overlap and duplication while supporting proactive initiatives by local communities
as well as by the private sector.

Mainstreaming culture and heritage and integrating civic society into the activities of the Authority.

Planning, creating and managing museums with the aim of preserving and conserving human culture, while exposing its values and socio-cultural and educational dimensions for a better understanding and appreciation by the general public.

Supporting education and training in the fields of culture and heritage and developing the necessary human and institutional capacities for achieving excellence in these fields.
