Land Rover celebrates 60th anniversary at 3000 feet

To celebrate the company's 60th anniversary, Land Rover took 60 people on a journey from the desert dunes in Hatta to the sky above the rugged Hajar Mountains and back to Dubai in an unconventional mode of transport not normally associated with Land Rover - hot air balloons.

Aimed at giving an extraordinary experience to its customers, three hot air balloons flew 3000 feet above the serene desert dunes offering the 60 people on board a breathtaking view of the sun rising over the mountains.

The event was attended by regional importers, customers and media who had gathered from 3 am in the morning to be part of the celebrations.

The event presented the true spirit of adventure that has become synonymous with the Land Rover brand.

"Land Rover manufactures the world's finest all terrain vehicles and has evolved over the past 60 years. It has become synonymous with delivering a spirit of adventure and we are delighted that we provided our guests with an extraordinary experience as we celebrated our 60th anniversary," said Marcelle Duncan, Regional Marketing Manager, Land Rover Middle East and North Africa.

Following the three hot air balloons over the desert dunes were convoys of seven Land Rover vehicles comprising the flagship The Range Rover and the Land Rover LR3 which has an exceptional breadth of capability.

Land Rover now has the strongest product line-up with five distinct models: The Range Rover, Range Rover Sport, Land Rover LR3, Land Rover LR2 and Defender.

These premium models offer customers a choice of products that are sophisticated, premium, technologically advanced and suitable for all driving expectations.

Land Rover has a strong presence in the region and has sustained its position at the forefront of the luxury SUV market.

The brand has grown from strength to strength over the years - 2007 was the company's best year ever and its third successive record sales year with 226,395 cars sold around the world.

The company takes environment sustainability seriously and has launched the world's biggest consumer CO2 Offset Programme.

This commitment is reflected continuously in its sustainable manufacturing and reduction of emissions with each successive model.

Land Rover also sponsors several environmental NGOs worldwide.
