EAD calls on the public to kick the carbon habit on World Environment Day and every day
- United Arab Emirates: Thursday, June 05 - 2008 at 15:45
- PRESS RELEASE
The Environment Agency- Abu Dhabi (EAD) commemorated the World Environment Day (June 5, 2008) which came this year under the slogan "Kick the Habit! - Towards a Low Carbon Economy".
EAD began the day by organizing car pooling in the morning and afternoon for its employees, in a bid to reduce harmful emissions. Public transportation was arranged for them by the Agency, in coordination with Emirates Transport Corporation (ETC). The three buses, which were provided by ETC, will be carrying environmental messages for one full year.
As part of the day's activities, EAD also delivered a presentation on Water, Water and Energy targeting ADMA's employees at the Abu Dhabi Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Al Ain Branch.
EAD also supported ADGAS's initiative, that is in line with ADGAS's corporate commitment to the protection of environment, in which they contributed to the cause of environmental protection by declaring and implementing a 'Paperless Day' in their offices. This scheme - was intended to encourage reduction in the usage and wastage of paper - but is not intended to - totally eliminate functional use of paper - on that day.
In a bid to highlight the issue, EAD also screened the popular environmental documentary film 11th Hour for its employees on that day. The film explores how humans arrived at this moment - how they will live, how they impact the Earth's ecosystems, and what they can do to change their habits. It also features experts from around the world discussing the most important issues that face our planet and people.
EAD also distributed small plants to its employees to encourage the 'Plant the Planet' concept. Moreover, organic food was also made available to its employees throughout the day.
