While businesses are under increasing pressure from consumers to be sustainable, there is also a new political will to do so, given the increasing oil prices and the socio-economic damages wreaked by climate change.

The environmental movement has ensured that almost every big business now assesses the impact of its actions on the planet.

Under the new eco drive initiative, TAC aims to adopt a two pronged approach - internal and external.

As part of their external campaign, they plan to reach out to the youth of Oman, in a bid to catch them young and instil the importance of being ecologically conscious.

A multimedia campaign to promote this cause is being launched across Oman and will reach out to children in different schools and people at large through a series of road shows at key shopping malls.

TAC also plans to conduct interactive sessions with the children apart from hosting a series of events during the latter part of the year.

The internal communications campaign will highlight the importance of reducing the carbon footprint by emphasising the use of recycled paper, switching off all electrical appliances and air conditioning when not in use and the importance of saving fuel and water, to list a few.

All TAC business cards and stationery will be printed on recycled paper in the near future and the number of green plants will be increased at all the branches and offices across Oman.

Speaking on the eve of World Environment Day, S. Kasthurirengan, CEO, TAC, said, "At a micro level, environmental auditing and implementation of eco-friendly practices can lead to a potentially happier and more productive workforce and significant cost savings. Countries around the world are beginning to recognise young people as assets, tapping into their amazing energy, commitment, and skills to solve problems. TAC as a globally responsible company wants to pool in their resources to spread the message of being eco aware."

Annurag Chawla, Head of Marketing and Communications, TAC, added, "Young people represent a dynamic force of creativity and change. They create a remarkable opportunity to exemplify the power of a generation uniting its efforts to build a better world. Under this CSR initiative, TAC is training their employees to be 'green' (environment-friendly), and protect the environment. Operating costs will be lowered by reducing electricity usage and electronic timers have been fitted in the showroom to minimise electrical waste. We are also educating our customers on how to use their cars responsibly."

Towell Auto Centre has always made genuine attempts to become carbon-neutral by promoting the cause in the past as well.
