IBM and SBM introduce the world's fastest power processor to the Kingdom

In a road show held recently by IBM and Saudi Business Machines Ltd. (SBM), the General Marketing and Services Representative of IBM WTC in Saudi Arabia, the launch of the latest generation of IBM power servers was announced which is based on IBM Power Technology Architecture. The road show toured Khobar, Riyadh and Jeddah.

The new systems offer sophisticated IBM virtualization technology and energy-saving capabilities to help dramatically reduce bottom-line operating costs, such as those for energy, floor space and systems management, while improving system performance, helping customers transition to a new enterprise data center.

For mid to large transaction processing workloads, the IBM Power 570 server, for example, delivers outstanding performance, mainframe-inspired reliability, modular non-disruptive growth and innovative virtualization technologies. These features are integrated to enable the simplified management of growth, complexity and risk.

Demonstrating its remarkable versatility, the new IBM System p 570 / 595, running the POWER6 processor, claim the No.1 spots in the four most widely used performance benchmarks for UNIX servers.

The new UNIX enterprise server, the Power 595, designed to extend IBM's leadership in the UNIX market, will be attractive to existing IBM clients as well as Solaris and UNIX users. For example, IBM's Power enterprise 64-core server delivers twice the performance at a comparable price than its equivalent in the market.

Beginning today, customers will be able to leverage the world's most powerful microprocessor, POWER6 - with New Breakthrough 5.0 GHz POWER6 Technology and the World's most powerful UNIX system for SAP - in these new systems, leading to significant performance improvements across a wide array of applications. These advanced processors deliver two-to-three times the performance per core of comparable processors in the market. Significant energy conservation design improvements enable POWER6 to deliver twice the performance requiring nearly the same amount of energy of earlier generations.

"Our road show to demonstrate the new generation of IBM Power servers opens up a whole new world of possibilities for our Power Systems clients," said Alistair Innes, IBM System Architect.

"The world's most powerful enterprise UNIX server with superior virtualization for workload balancing across UNIX, Linux represent major breakthroughs in innovation and energy efficiency for IBM clients and make the new enterprise data center a reality."

These offerings are an important element in helping clients develop a new enterprise data center, which offers dramatic improvements in IT efficiency and provides for rapid deployment of new IT services to support future business growth in the On Demand world. IBM and SBM are helping clients move to new enterprise data centers by focusing on best practices around virtualization, green IT, service management and innovations.

This comprehensive launch of the new Power 6 generation is part of IBM's commitment to innovation and ongoing outlook for the future.
