ITA holds its third board meeting

The Board of directors of the Information Technology Authority (ITA) held a meeting under the auspices of H.E. Mohammed Nasser Al-Khasibi, Chairman of ITA.

The meeting began with the approval of the minutes of the second board meeting of 2008. Summary of the pilot Government training which completed successfully was presented in this meeting and plans to deploy this training for all the 93,000 civil employees were also discussed. Additionally, ITA's corporate identity enhancement projects details were presented for approval.

Amongst other issues, this meeting reviewed the changes to be made to the HR manuals of ITA. The technical and financial evaluation report of the VSAT project to connect about 256 schools which are currently not connected to the Internet was reviewed at this meeting.

Several discussions were held on Oman's significant achievement through its IT projects as reflected by the recent UN E-Readiness rankings and subsequent measures to improve the current position further.

A report on ITA's visit to the US-based IT companies like Microsoft, Cisco and Google was reviewed. Besides, further plans for cooperative investments with these companies for developing the country's IT capabilities and prospects for enhancing the local IT industry were discussed. Finally, the audited financial statements for 2007 were presented to the board for its approval.
