Dubai Healthcare City appoints James Kingsbury as CEO of University Hospital

Dubai Healthcare City (DHCC), member of Tatweer, announced the appointment of James Kingsbury as Chief Executive Officer of its recently launched 400-bed University Hospital (UH) that will serve as a regional center for life sciences research, postgraduate medical education, and secondary and tertiary medical services.

James Kingsbury was previously the Executive Director and Senior Vice-President of the University Hospital and Health Alliance of Greater Cincinnati, USA.

In addition to his extensive academic medical experience, Kingsbury has earned a reputation in the healthcare industry for being an effective leader in senior-level management positions. He is recognized for achieving high growth rates, financial-turnarounds, leading major staff developments and revisions to residency training programs, as well as overseeing significant construction and expansion of medical facilities.

As CEO of University Hospital, James Kingsbury will play an integral part in driving the hospital's growth while positioning it as a renowned academic facility. He will work with the DHCC leadership to direct clinical operational planning and construction, while overseeing a comprehensive recruitment process to choose world-class regional and global professionals for the institution. Additionally, he will direct the finance and marketing departments, and formulate a permanent governance structure for the University Hospital.

Construction of the 1.4 million square feet University Hospital campus commenced in June 2007. When completed, the UH will offer specialty programs in oncology, neurology, neurosurgery, musculoskeletal health, orthopedics, diabetes, and metabolic diseases.

Additionally, the hospital will offer core programs in dermatology, gastroenterology, neonatology, ENT, OB/GYN, ophthalmology, urology, reconstructive surgery, general surgery, and general medicine.

The University Hospital will incorporate unique features including clinical strength through interdisciplinary care, state-of-the-art healthcare information systems, and the most technologically-advanced complex specialties as kidney and liver transplants. UH is scheduled to begin patient operations in early 2011.
