The delegates from the sustainable process technologies department of Laborelec - a company specialising in energy production and use - saw Bahrain featured in video footage on BBC News Europe, where the BWTC's wind turbines were shown in operation for the first time last week.
The delegation, who were hosted by BWTC's architects and engineers ATKINS, learnt how the BWTC has successfully incorporated sustainability into its twin tower design by the use of three 29-meter diameter horizontal-axis wind turbines. These will provide 11-15% of the towers' energy requirements.
In addition to visiting the BWTC the delegation also visited Al Ezzel Power Plant, the first privately owned and operated power plant in Bahrain located in Hidd Industrial area, which began operation in 2007 and produces 950MW of electricity from four gas turbines and two steam turbines.
