On learning about the award, Dr. Sultan Al Jaber, CEO of the Masdar Initiative, said: 'By recognising the WFES at an event of this importance the international community is also recognising the vital role that exhibitions and conferences have to play in communicating the message of a sustainable world.'
Plans are currently in progress for the second summit to be held 19-21 January 2009 with speakers Dr Gerd Leipold, International Executive Director, Greenpeace International and Hans Jorgen Koch, Deputy State Secretary, Ministry of Climate and Energy, Denmark already confirmed. The full programme is expected to be announced at the end of this month.
'We are also looking at the potential for launching a series of smaller forums in other continents to extend the brand beyond the GCC region and the annual summit in a similar way to the Davos series of events' said Lynne Evans, Event Director 'Bilbao, Copenhagen, Reykjavik and Frankfurt have been short-listed as potential host cities for the first in the series and we are hoping to be able to make some further announcements soon.'
