- PRESS RELEASE
Damas, the leading international jewellery retailer in the Middle East, unfurls one of the most dramatic jewellery offerings this year - the Carrera y Carrera De Luces collection.
"As the foremost Spanish design house offering wearable works of art, Carrera y Carrera has always enthralled the fashion world with tradition, passion and jewellery craftsmanship. In De Luces collection it draws inspiration from the "suits of lights", the traditional outfit of Spanish bullfighters. The jewels capture the rich and ornate splendour of this attire in pieces that will be treasured for all time," said Tawhid Abdullah, Managing Director of Damas.
While mainly considered a male bastion, the Tauromachy or bullfight, which dates back to the late 17th century, draws an audience from all walks of life and is an intrinsic and passionate aspect of the history of Spain. The drama and excitement, intensity and sensuality, as well as the elaborate ritual leading to a bull fight are recalled in fervent detail in De Luces' three lines: Ruedo, Pasodoble and Alamar.
The sunny, warm glow and radiance of yellow gold combines with rose-cut diamonds in Ruedo and Pasodoble offering rings, earrings, bracelets and necklaces in designs recreating the castanets - the rigid embroidery on the epaulet - and the gold and silver-thread flowers hand-embroidered on the bolero and pants of the matador. Ruedo jewels exude a joyous spirit matching the exuberance and sensuality of an evening of pure celebration and feature a large disc in yellow gold that recreates the bullfight ring or stadium with several swirls in graded levels, and the ring itself in lustrous mother-of-pearl. This design is thereafter transformed into a pendant chain, ring and bracelet charm. Glamorous and riveting, these jewels pay brilliant tribute to the magic of Spain and its famous design house.
Pasodoble is a line that accents oscillating movement, with the elements of each jewel designed to shift on its own structure. Its bracelet, a particularly striking piece, will surely delight the stylish woman of today.
The Alamar line heightens the allure of fine jewellery in a delectable partnership between white gold and diamonds to present an array of earrings, bracelets, pendant chains and rings in tear-drop designs with detailed gold work and diamond setting.
Carrera y Carrera's remarkable journey in design spans over twelve decades and is dotted with both royal and celebrity clients. In 1960 when King Baudouin I of Belgium married the Spanish noblewoman Fabiola de Mora y Aragon, the bridal tiara was made by Carrera y Carrera. Other legendary names include Audrey Hepburn, Balenciaga, and lately Meryl Streep, Victoria Beckham and Shakira. Today, this design house has presence in 26 cities across the globe, with 19 wholly-owned boutiques and 250 points of sale including the world's only 7-star hotel, the Burj Al Arab. Its perennial source of inspiration has been nature, with floral motifs being its current favourite. Carrera y Carrera owes the exclusive look of its jewels to a matte-gloss finish, the manufacturing process of which is a closely guarded secret of the design house.
