Ras Laffan has stringent regulations related to effluent discharge and environment protection standards. Metito's choice of process and equipment design ensured that these standards are met whilst providing a cost effective solution.

With a total value of Dhs21m, the three projects have been completed by Metito over the course of 8 months and will treat 2 million gallons of waste water daily. Covering all stages of treatment, the projects form an integral part of the expansion plan of Ras Laffan, a city that will in short time more than double in size.

The scope of work carried out by Metito was comprehensive: Metito designed, engineered, manufactured and delivered the equipment, then complemented its services by carrying out the installation and commissioning through its local set up in Doha.

Commenting on the projects, Bassem Halabi - Group Business Development Director of Metito said,
"The projects mark the completion of yet another challenging project for Metito and we're proud to be instrumental in the growth of one of the world's largest gas processing cities."

He added, "Metito has a long history of constructing world class treatment facilities all over the GCC, and the Ras Laffan projects are a good example of how Metito can cater for the clients needs using the latest standards and project management software to ensure timely completion. With the rapid growth and development across the region, water shortage is on the rise and becoming a major concern, something that every country has to take extremely seriously along with the environmental impact."

Situated on the North-East coast of Qatar, Ras Laffan Industrial City is an energy hub incorporating a deep-water port. This port is the world's largest LNG exporting facility, making it increasingly popular with energy exporters who are able to quickly transport gas extracted from the adjacent North Field's 900 trillion cubic feet of natural gas reserves.

The resulting rapid expansion of Ras Laffan Industrial City will see it expand from its current size of 106 square kilometers to around 250 square kilometers. This quick growth made rapid and fault-free installation of the waste water treatment facilities vital.
