- PRESS RELEASE
Navis, a Zebra Technologies company and the world's first company to automate marine terminal operating systems (TOS), announced that the Gulf Stevedoring Contracting Company (GSCCO) in Saudi Arabia is honored for its leadership in managing terminals with high volumes using Navis solutions.
At the Jeddah Islamic Port (JIP), GSCCO has reduced idle time by 85%, streamlined information flow and increased the quality of customer service with Navis SPARCS terminal operating systems (TOS) and Navis Express.
This year GSCCO will increase its twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs - a standard measure in intermodal transport) to 1.7 million which will be up from 1.5 million in 2007.
The contracting company uses only 8 quay cranes to work on 1,000 meter quay length.
"We have used Navis since the opening of the greenfield terminal in 2000, and we believe that Navis has played a large part in our success," said Saud Tammah Al Onaini, Terminal Manager & Deputy Project Manager at GSCCO-Jeddah.
"Without a terminal operating system, you cannot manage a terminal, especially with high volume. We have good coordination with Navis and have had success with its leadership team."
Founded in 1985, GSCCO has won a succession of prestigious port projects throughout Saudi Arabia against opposition from larger and longer established rivals demonstrating its competitiveness and efficiency.
The company is currently operating three of the largest port projects in Saudi Arabia and is in the process of developing the Northern Container Terminal in Jeddah Islamic Port, which is the country's busiest port.
"We're thrilled to know GSCCO was recognized because of its efficient management and reliable customer service," said Richard Harrison, Senior Vice President of Maritime Sales at Navis. "As Saud indicated, Navis solutions played a significant role in GSCCO's operational success which helped the terminal receive this prestigious award."
