The annual event celebrates the strong partnership ties DWC establishes every year with the national and international communities and highlights outstanding contributions by staff, students, and graduates.
This year's celebration was inaugurated by Ms Salma Hareb, CEO of Economic Zones World and Jebel Ali Free Zone Authority, who highlighted several factors required to empower women to enable them become active players in the growth and development of their local and regional communities. Earlier this year, Ms Hareb had topped Forbes Arabia's list of the 50 Most Powerful Arab Businesswomen.
The event, attended by several dignitaries from Dubai, opened with a review of the milestones and accomplishments of DWC's 19th year including winning international awards, launching new programs, students winning competitions, inaugurating conferences, and organizing community related events.
DWC thanked H.H. Sheikha Hind Bint Maktoum Bin Juma Al Maktoum w/o H.H. Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and ruler of Dubai, for her continuous support of the College and for generously sponsoring DWC's laptop program that benefited 167 DWC students.
Partners awarded during the ceremony included Nakheel, Bait al Kheir, Al Maktoum Foundation, DOHMS (Ambulance and Paramedic Services), Tamweel, Jumeirah Group, Mohammed Bin Rashid Association, Roads and Transports Authority, Department of Tourism, Al Futtaim, Dubai Duty Free, Switzerland Tourism & Swiss International Airlines, Dubai Media Incorporated, Dubai Municipality, Dubai Golf, DP World, Mashreq Bank, HSBC Bank, Uptown Primary School, Sukima School, and Al Sufouh School.
During the past year, DWC won several awards including DWC faculty winning the British Council Award for Innovation in English Language Teaching-International category, DWC faculty winning the Association of Collegiate Business Schools and Programs Region 8 Teaching Excellence Award, a student winning first place in the journalism category of the Sheikh Zayed bin Mohammed Media Youth Awards, and five students selected to be part of the Gulf Film Festival and receiving second and special recognition prizes.
