UAE president rejects IVF law
United Arab Emirates: Wednesday, June 18 - 2008 at 08:36
The President of the UAE has rejected a draft law on invitro-fertilisation because it is 'discriminatory', reported Gulf News. His Highness Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan said a clause which stipulates that at least one Muslim IVF specialist be appointed among the staff of every IVF centre across the country is 'discriminatory and contradictory to international conventions'. Shaikh Khalifa added that freezing embryos requires a fatwa or a religious edict, so the later use of eggs would be better than embryos.
