Till August 22, Dubai will welcome millions of visitors through a combination of the region's best in shopping, winning, and family entertainment.

Laila Suhail, CEO of Dubai Shopping Festival Office said, "The start of a new era in DSS history begins today. A lot of work has gone into preparing this edition and we are sure that visitors will be able to feel the difference."

"The past achievements of DSS and the international stance that the event has acquired cast a huge responsibility on the Dubai Shopping Festival Office team. We aim to meet the aspirations of our visitors and raise the superiority bar of our Summer Event to the next level. DSS 2008 will further confirm our leadership in this industry regionally."

Ibrahim Saleh, General Coordinator of DSF Office, "The eleventh edition of the summer extravaganza promises to be the best ever as the expectations of DSF Office predicts a 8-10% increase in visitor numbers and 20-25% increase in expenditure compared to DSS 2007."

Shopping

Shopping has been a key element of DSS from the start in 1998 and figures related to the retail industry during summer are usually used as success indicators of each DSS edition - the retail spending during DSS 2007 touched Dhs850m. The growth of the retail sector during summer in Dubai has been monumental but not without benefits to the millions of shoppers who flock to Dubai during DSS. Dubai is a shopper's paradise and this feeling is accentuated in summer when some of the biggest shopping promotions in the region are launched.

Winning

While shopping brings its share of joys, DSS adds to it an exciting prospect of winning. Every week, shoppers stand the chance to win luxury cars and cash prizes running into hundreds of thousands of dollars. A regular shopping trip could make a shopper richer by the thousands overnight. It is this excitement that ultimately lends to the spirit of DSS shopping.

There are three main raffle draws being organized for DSS 2008 - the Dubai Summer Surprises 2008 Grand Raffles, the Dubai Shopping Malls Group Mega Raffles, and the Dubai Gold and Jewellery Group Raffle Promotion.

Dubai Summer Surprises Grand Raffle

The DSS 2008 Grand Raffle is probably the easiest way to win a brand new BMW X5.
Upon purchasing a raffle coupon of Dhs200 from select fuel stations of Emarat, Eppco, Enoc, or the kiosks at Deira City Centre, Mall of the Emirates, BurJuman, Baniyas Street, Al Fahidi Street, Gold Souk, or Modhesh Fun City, raffle buyers stand the chance to win a BMW X5 and Dhs100,000 cash. Five draws are being organized during this year's DSS and the greater the number of raffle purchases, the greater the chances of winning.

Dubai Shopping Malls Group Mega Raffle

Organised by the Dubai Shopping Malls Group, a key sponsor of DSS 2008 and an umbrella organization for the shopping malls in Dubai, the DSMG Raffle entitles one shopper to win a massive cash prize of Dhs500,000 upon a minimum purchase of Dhs200. The winner is chosen through a draw held every week at a selected shopping mall. With endless shopping promotions organized in retail outlets, this is the chance to truly shop and win.

Dubai Gold and Jewellery Group Promotion

The Dubai Gold and Jewellery Group is offering shoppers a chance to win daily prizes of Dhs10,000 and nine weekly bumper prizes of Dhs50,000 in gold & jewellery vouchers during this year's Dubai Summer Surprises.

Shoppers have the opportunity to go home with a total of Dhs1.1m in prizes by purchasing Dhs300 worth of gold or jewellery from any of the participating Dubai Gold & Jewellery outlet during the 65 days of DSS. The promotion runs in over 300 jewellery outlets across Dubai, including stand-alone shops as well as those in the malls, Gold Land, Gold Souk, Gold House, Gold Centre, Meena Bazaar, and Al Ghusais.

Entertainment

DSS 2008 will no more feature the Ten Surprises; instead events have been organised to present Tens of Surprises where a new activity will be held every alternate day meaning visitors can expect a display of refreshing entertainment throughout 65 days of summer festivities.

In line with this change, the events organised have been of an extremely high standard and designed to cater to every visitor segment. Some of the highlights for this year include the Signature Events, comprising of eight exciting activities for mall shoppers and visitors, in addition to Modhesh Fun City, the focus of entertainment during DSS. Numerous new zones have been added to Modhesh Fun City thus strengthening its reputation as the largest indoor edutainment venue in the region.

Key Sponsors

There are 16 sponsors for DSS this year, consisting of leading regional business entities from various economic sectors. The consistent support of the sponsors is a significant indication of the cooperation between the private and the public sector and translates to an enhanced experience for DSS visitors this year through amazing shopping promotions and raffle draws.
