With increased flexibility to support a wider range of Ethernet network architectures in both the enterprise and service provider markets, Juniper's MX-series provides customers with the ability to expand and accelerate the deployment of carrier-class Ethernet networks and services—reducing cost and complexity in additional parts of the network.

"Juniper's MX-series platforms are a key enabler as we seek to maximize the value of our asset by increasing efficiency and capacity on our network while accelerating the delivery of innovative, high-performance services," said Clive Dorsman, chief operating officer at The Carphone Warehouse Networks. "We are pleased to see Juniper further enhancing the MX-series with a range of new interface options that will provide increased flexibility, allowing us to use the MX-series to support a broader range of services."

Interchangeable across the entire MX-series family—including the MX240, MX480 and MX960—the new dense port concentrator (DPC) cards include:

- New copper-based Tri-rate (10/100/1000) Ethernet DPCs which enable customers to support low-speed interfaces as well as the existing high-speed interface options.
- New 20 Gbps DPCs, which are more cost effective and efficient, requiring less power than full 40 Gbps cards. The 20 Gbps DPCs enable cost- or energy-conscious customers to benefit from the long-term investment protection that comes from the MX-series' superior performance and scalability, while keeping capital and operational costs at a minimum.
- New Multi-rate DPCs, which increase flexibility and efficiency by enabling customers to support both Gigabit and 10 Gigabit Ethernet interfaces on a single line card.

The new DPC interface cards can be deployed in tandem with existing interface cards—enabling customers to configure the MX-series with an optimal combination of high- and low-speed interfaces to meet specific deployment requirements.

This unparalleled flexibility, when combined with the range of power- and space-efficient MX-series hardware platforms, enables service providers and enterprises to effectively balance cost, energy consumption and capacity requirements in an extensive range of networks.

"Juniper has enhanced their market position with the addition of these new line cards that broaden MX-series deployment options and lower costs for both enterprise and service provider customers," said Dave Passmore, research director, Burton Group.

"In particular, the MX-series copper interfaces will help address enterprise needs by supporting smaller, limited configuration requirements."

The MX-series family uses the single source-code based JUNOS software, which delivers advanced Ethernet Operations, Administration and Maintenance (OAM) capabilities and features that simplify the deployment and management of Ethernet services in large scale networks.

The powerful combination of the MX-series next-generation hardware platforms, new interface options and JUNOS further advance the economics, performance and scalability of carrier-class Ethernet, while also reducing costs and complexity.

"The infrastructure networking market as well as our enterprise and service provider customer's business is evolving rapidly in the Middle East. The expansion on the features of the MX Series is inline with our ongoing focused strategy to empower high-performance businesses to focus on the true value of their business and support them in reducing cost and complexity while they expand across all their networks,"
