Dubai Municipality has launched a new service for collecting bulk domestic waste such as furniture and household equipments like refrigerators and washing machines.

The move is in line with the Municipality's keenness to dispose off waste with high capability and protecting the health and safety of the environment and the society as well as accomplishing its vision of creating an excellent city that provides the essence of success and comfort of living.

"As part of implementing the Municipality directives on applying the Local Order No.11 of 2003 regarding public health and social safety in the emirate of Dubai, and also as part of its keenness to promote safe practices in the emirate's society with respect to environmental and social safety, we have decided to launch a new service aimed at getting rid of bulky wastes such as furniture and home appliances like refrigerators and washing machines,"

said Eng. Hassan Makki, Director of Waste Management Department in the Municipality.

"Many people store them at their residential locations or throw them outside their homes or on the roads defacing the general appearance of the emirate," he said.

Makki said that safe handling of these wastes is considered an essential matter for protecting the environment and the health of the society. "The Waste Management Department will provide an effective service of treating and disposing off these wastes. Those who want to dispose them off safely they can just call us on 800900 and the Municipality will remove these wastes from their door steps and dispose them off safely," he said.

It is worth mention that the Waste Management Department in the Municipality has launched an extensive media campaign to educate the public on this new service through newspaper advertisements in Arabic and English in the local media, in addition to radio ads and bill boards at petrol stations, hotels and ATM machines.

The Municipality has also started sending SMSs to its customers on intermittent days and is also distributing brochures, posters and stickers for trucks, specially made for this service.
