  • PRESS RELEASE

Roads & Transport Authority (RTA) opened a key part of Phase III of Ras Al Khor Interchanges Project that covered opening of Oud Metha Bridge (South) for traffic inbound from the Business Bay Crossing towards the junction of Bu Kadreh - Al Khail Roads.

Work is up and running to complete the project in full in a few months time later this year.

Engineer Metha bin Adai, CEO of RTA Traffic & Roads Agency, described the project which started in February 2006 at a cost of about Dhs613m, as "one of the key stages in Ras Al Khor Interchanges Project, that extend from the Airport Tunnel to the first interchange at Sheikh Zayed Road.

Works under this phase, which spans from the Business Bay Crossing to Al Khail Road, includes construction of a main road as an extension of Al Khail Road.

It extends 5 km and consists of 5 lanes in each direction.

It also includes 2 main interchanges at the junction of the Business Bay Crossing - Oud Metha Roads and an underpass of Za'abeel Road.

"This Project supplements the remaining parts of projects currently underway. Phase I, Phase II and a part of Phase III, which extend from the Airport Tunnel across the Business Bay Crossing to Oud Metha Road at Za'abeel interchanges, were opened last year. The project is scheduled for full completion later this year" added Metha.

Under the same project, RTA is intending to complete the second contract which started in March 2006 with a total cost of around Dhs450m.

The Project includes several new roads of different sectors ranging from two to five lanes with a total length of 18 km.

It also includes construction of five key crossings passing over the new Creek Canal such that a link will be completed between the Business Bay Crossing and both Al Doha & Al Khail Roads from one side, and Oud Metha Road from another.

It is worth mentioning that RTA is continuing efforts through Traffic & Roads Agency to upgrade roads network in the emirate of Dubai, follow-up implementation of a number of vital projects, renovate key roads, and provide advanced services at residential areas.

These projects are part of the strategy & relentless efforts of the RTA to keep pace with the urban economic & urban development, meet the requirements of growth & demographic expansion, and upgrade roads network.

The overall of objective is to ease traffic congestion and realize the vision of the RTA to provide safe & smooth transport for all.
