DP World sponsors Al Shabab Al Arabi Karate Club at the 17th Koi World Cup

DP World, the leading global port operator, today announced that it will support and sponsor Dubai based Al Shabab Al Arabi Karate team up to and during their participation in the 17th Kobe Osaka Karate World Cup.

The Karate World Cup will be held from 29th June until the 6th of July, 2008 in Latina, Italy.

Adnan Al Abbar, Senior Vice President, Planning and Development Department, DP World said; "We are delighted to support the Al Shabab Al Arabi team as they take part in the 17th Kobe Osaka Karate World Cup. We wish them every success in their endeavours and look forward to following a local team on an international stage."

In preparation of the championship members of the Al Shabab Al Arabi team will participate in a training camp held at the Dubai based club from 12th - 28th June.

The Al Shabab Al Arabi team includes; Ali Al Madfaa, Mr. Hareth Al Madfaa, , Hammoud Al Khatiri , Mr. Khalifa Al Abbar -third place winner in the national championship and the winner of the open championship of single Kata, Mahmoud Al Masri - second place winner in the national league championship in single Kata, Hazem Alaa - national champion for several years in single Kata, Shaikha Al Khatiri, Sarah al Dousary and Moushira al Zawahiri - first place winners in the national championships of Kata and Kumite for several years.

The training camp programme involves training on all the four major Karate styles adopted by the World Karate Federation (WKF) and will give all members of the Al Shabab Al Arabi team the chance to acquire new skills and international experience. The team will be trained by Messrs Alraitouni Matyout , Khalid Al Hadi, Franklyn Kui and Ahmed Badouh, this will also provide an opportunity for the team to familiarize themselves with the most effective and up to date training techniques and improve their standards.
