State of Environment Report (SoE)
The SoE, which is aimed at everyone from policy makers to students, can be considered 'a snapshot in time'. It is a snapshot of our environment at this moment in time. Not only does it provide essential, timely and quality information about environmental and related human conditions, trends and pressures within the atmospheric, terrestrial and marine aspects of the Emirate, it highlights anticipated trends and priority areas for future intervention.
EAD is currently involving more stakeholders across disciplines and sectors during the development process of SoE 2008, which will be available at www.soe.ae,
In order to involve more stakeholders, a cross-sectoral and multi-disciplinary workshop was held on June 22,2008 where vital input was gathered to enhance the SoE as a product, improve its visibility and give it a wider impact. Subsequently, EAD will be measuring and evaluating the outreach and impact of SoE 2008.
SoE 2008 will aim to inform policy makers in the development of new policies to improve the state of our environment; informing land and environmental managers, such as local governments, water authorities and others, to assist the development of appropriate management responses; informing environmental education programmes; and provide easily understood and accessible information to the wider community about the state and condition of Abu Dhabi's environment.
Not only will the SoE 2008 report on the effectiveness of responses designed to address changes, it will also identify the issues most relevant to the sustainability of Abu Dhabi's environment and its citizen's and resident's well-being.
EAD hopes that the production of SoE 2008 will help catalyze production of an SoE at the federal level.
