The center was created as a location for individuals, institutions and the general public to donate second-hand, damaged or discarded computers. The items are refurbished then distributed to local educational institutions, or social and charity organizations.

In addition to providing a valuable resource to those in need, the program aims to contribute to environmental conservation efforts by encouraging people to recycle their old computers rather than disposing of them in an inappropriate manner.

The Dubai Municipality initiative comes in cooperation with the Mohammed Bin Rashed Al Maktoum Humanitarian and Charity Foundation, and Microsoft. Mr Qasem Al Qasem, from Dubai Municipality, thanked the College for its donation and commitment to saving community resources and its proactive strategy towards protecting the environment.

DWC, a long-standing member of the Emirates Environmental Group, is committed to promoting environment-friendly ideas and values throughout DWC and the Dubai community at large.

The College recently hosted a conference with the theme 'Green IT' which aimed at raising awareness of the negative impacts of improper usage of IT on the environment. DWC has a Green Committee that initiates and manages green initiatives on campus including recycling issues, printing less, food, and facilities green proposals.
