  • PRESS RELEASE

As part of its Summer Training Program for 2008, entitled 'Towards a Productive Generation', the Sharjah Economic Development Department (SEDD) has selected 20 students from the emirate's universities, Higher Colleges of Technology and schools, to participate in training internships to enhance their career knowledge, performance and skills.

H.E Ali Bin Salem Al Mahmoud, General Manager of the Sharjah Economic Development Department, stated that the 2 month summer internship will run from 15 June to 14 August and will be supervised by the Quality and Development Section of the SEDD.

The students will be presented with certificates of attendance upon completion of their courses.

Al Mahmoud further stated that the department has designed a detailed programme, which aims to raise awareness of the importance of investment in the various economic sectors and of the value and role of self employment for the national economy.

The trainees will be guided through the basics of establishing their own successful enterprises and will be encouraged to adopt creative and innovative thinking through all phases of business development, from planning to production. The program aims at preparing a new generation of entrepreneurs.

Al Mahmoud explained that the students were divided into 4 of the SEDD's departments and branches in accordance with their fields of study.

The Registration and Licensing Department and its sections (the Trade Names Section, the Ladies Section and the Cancelling and Fixing License Section), have received a number of trainees, while others were divided into three sections of the Economic Relations and Public Relations Departments. These sections are the Media and Public Relations Section, the Sales and Promotions Section and the Client Services Section.

The Department of Finance and Administrative Affairs has received the third group of students, who were divided into its two sections, the Financial Affairs Section and the Administrative Affairs Section. The Commercial Control and Protection Sections received the fourth group of students and divided them among its three sections, the Legal Affairs Section, the Khorfakkan branch and the Industrial Area branch.

Al Mahmoud said that the summer training programme bridges the gap between the educational institution and the workplace. "This is an excellent opportunity for students to integrate academic study with practical experience. This learning experience will help students to make informed decisions about their future careers. Students will also be able to develop the work habits, attitudes and job skills necessary for a successful transition from college to the workplace. We focused on such values as commitment, punctuality, shouldering responsibility and teamwork as elements of major importance in the evaluation of each student," he said.
