The Dubai-based international airline beat off strong competition from British Airways, Saudi Arabian, KLM and Virgin Atlantic to claim that top prize of Air Cargo Carrier of the Year Award for the fourth time at the International Freighting Weekly (IFW) awards in London.

Collected by David Taylor, Emirates Key Accounts Manger Cargo UK & Ireland, the prize is awarded to the carrier which receives the most votes from IFW's freight forwarder and shipper readers.

In Shanghai at the Air Cargo Week World Air Cargo Awards, Emirates SkyCargo was recognised for the superb service it provides each customer when it won the Customer Care Award. Ram Menen, Emirates Divisional Senior Vice President Cargo, was in Shanghai to accept the accolade.

Mr Menen said:

"Emirates SkyCargo is honoured to be recognised by our customers. These awards are a powerful acknowledgement of our dedication to providing the highest levels of service. We are continually striving to set new standards for the airline industry, the awards underline that."

Earlier this year, Emirates SkyCargo moved into its new hub at the Dubai International Airport. The $327m, 43,600 sq metre Cargo Mega Terminal was designed to handle 1.2 million tonnes of cargo a year, to meet the needs of the carrier's increasing year-on-year volumes.

Last year, Emirates SkyCargo handled 1.3 million tonnes of cargo across its expanding network, a 10.9 per cent increase on the 1.2 million tonnes it handled the previous year.
