"When their cases are resolved, DFWAC social workers coordinate closely with the International Migration Organization (IMO), the relevant diplomatic bodies, and the local authorities to ensure they safely return to their homelands if they wish,"
said Afra Al Basti, CEO of the foundation upon receiving a delegation of senior Uzbek officials.
The delegation headed by Mr. Kurbanov Nader, First Secretary of Strategies and Planning at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan, visited the DFWAC to ascertain the circumstances of the Uzbek citizens living currently at the shelter, offer any required assistance and foster future collaboration with the foundation as the Uzbek government announces plans to establish a similar shelter in Tashkent.
Al Basti who presented the delegation with an overview of the previous and current Uzbek nationals' cases spoke of the 16-year old Uzbek girl, victim of human trafficking who was referred by Dubai Police. "Our social and legal departments are closely following up with the legal authorities in Dubai to make sure she is free of any charges. We are also coordinating with the Uzbek council and the IMO to facilitate her return back home safely at the earliest possible," added Al Basti.
