The workshop addressed a series of important issues, such as the international guidelines for the external trade index numbers and data quality, calculation of index numbers for value units, practices of publishing external trade index numbers, and calculation of external trade index numbers.
Ms Nassim Al Mehairi, Acting Head of the Statistics Department, in her detailed presentation, shed light on the role the department plays in supporting Dubai's trade by providing accurate statistical details, including figures, comparisons and analyses of the trends in the market.
'Our studies provide vital and accurate information from the market to the various subsidiary companies of Dubai World, government departments in Dubai and in the UAE in general, the business community and to all related sectors. We are constantly monitoring and analysing the market changes and planning future operations. We have set up a very comprehensive database and use high-tech digital tools to store this information for easy use,'
Ms Nassim Al Mehairi said.
She added that Statistics Department will shortly launch a number of future initiatives within the framework of its E-Statistics Project. She stressed the need for exchange of experience expertise and closer contact and co-operation in this area between countries and organisations, considering the fact that statistical data and indices form the pillars of business and trade operations. The availability of accurate and updated data covering all sectors is the fundamental factor that defines higher production and bigger growth for companies, she said.
