The Rail Agency from the Roads and Transport Authority has announced that TBM1 (Wogaisha) has broken through at Al Gubaiba on the Green Line after covering a distance of 554 meters.
The total distance from Al Ras to Burjuman is 2.46 kms, making it one of the longest tunnelling journeys in this project.
The second TBM which is currently on its way from Union Square to Baniyas on the Green Line is making rapid progress. Currently around 444 tunnel lining rings have been completed out of 454 with a total distance of 678 meters.
The TBM is expected to reach Baniyas by early next week post which it will continue its journey towards Palm Deira. While TBM3 has completed its initial drive at Palm Deira and will commence its main drive towards Al Ras by early next month.
Adnan Al Hammadi, Director of Rail Construction Projects said, "The Green Line Tunneling is far more extensive compared to the Red Line. Unlike the Red Line which has only four underground stations, the Green Line has eight underground stations covering a distance of eight kms. We are happy with the progress of the TBMs on the Metro Project. Most of the tunnelling work has been completed before the prescribed schedule."
