Jeffrey Culpepper joins Credit Suisse as Head of the Investment Banking Department in the Middle East and North Africa

Dubai Credit Suisse is pleased to announce that Jeffrey Culpepper is joining the Bank as a Managing Director and a Vice-Chairman of the Investment Banking Department in the EMEA region.
Eric Varvel, Chief Executive Officer of Credit Suisse in Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA) said, "Credit Suisse considers the Middle East a key growth market and an important driver of international investment around the world. These senior appointments underscore our commitment to our clients in the Middle East. "
Jim Amine, Co-Head of the Global Investment Banking Department, added: "Jeffrey is a proven business leader who brings extensive knowledge, senior client relationships and a deep understanding of the region. We look forward to providing the benefit of his experience with our clients and bankers."
Bassam Yammine, Co-CEO of Credit Suisse in the Middle East and North Africa region, added: "We are committed to further investing in our platform and expanding our footprint in the Middle East. We look forward to welcoming Jeffrey and his team to Credit Suisse."
Mr. Culpepper joins Credit Suisse after a distinguished career in investment banking spanning more than 20 years in the MENA region. Most recently, he was Head of Global Markets and Investment Banking in the Middle East and North Africa for Merrill Lynch.
In this role, Mr. Culpepper was CEO of Merrill Lynch's Dubai branch and Chairman of Merrill Lynch Saudi Arabia. Prior to that role, Mr. Culpepper spent eight years with Deutsche Bank where he was Head of the Corporate and Investment Banking Group in the Middle East and North Africa. Prior to this, Mr. Culpepper spent twelve years with Chase Manhattan Bank where he was Head of their MEA Oil & Gas Group.
During his career, Mr. Culpepper has been a founding board member of a number of leading institutions in the region, including Deutsche Al-Azizia Financial Services and Dar Al-Istithmar. He also is the founder of a microfinance company that benefits businesswomen in Yemen.
Saad Benani is also joining Credit Suisse as a Managing Director and Imran Hussein and Steven Novick are joining as Directors in the Middle East Coverage team. They will report to Jeffrey.
In addition, Adel Afiouni has been appointed Head of the Global Markets Solutions Group in the Middle East, effective immediately. He will report to Jeffrey Culpepper locally and to Marisa Drew and Thibaut de Gaudemar, Co-Heads of the Global Markets Solutions Group in EMEA, functionally for this role.
Mr. Afiouni will be responsible for developing and delivering the Bank's broad-based financing product platform to clients in the region. Mr. Afiouni assumes this role in addition to his current role as Head of Fixed Income and Equity Derivatives coverage in the MENA region, reporting to Savady Yem.
George Pavey, Co-Head of Emerging Markets Equity Capital Markets, has relocated from London to Dubai. Credit Suisse has one of the leading ECM platforms in the EMEA region and an established track record in delivering best execution for the Bank's clients. Mr. Pavey will report to Jeffrey Culpepper locally and to Nick Williams and Thomas Gottstein, Co-Heads of EMEA Equity Capital Markets, on a functional basis.
