Dr. Nuwayhid appointed as the Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences in the AUB

The American University of Beirut announced today that Dr. Iman Nuwayhid, Professor of Environmental Health, has been appointed Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences, and will succeed Dr. Huda Zurayk as of September 1, 2008.

'This appointment is the culmination of an international search to fill the deanship,' said Outgoing President John Waterbury. 'The experience, credentials, and quality of those who applied for this position were notable, which indicates the level to which this faculty has risen internationally.'

Dr Waterbury added:

'I know that Dr. Nuwayhid will take the teaching, research and service activities of FHS to new heights, and I know you all join me in congratulating him on his appointment as dean. I would also like to take this opportunity to thank again Dean Huda Zurayk for all of her achievements as dean. I am certain that she will work closely with Dr. Nuwayhid in the coming months to ensure a smooth transition in FHS.'

Dr. Nuwayhid completed his MD degree at AUB in 1984. He received his MPH and DrPH from Johns Hopkins University in 1985 and 1990. He joined the faculty at AUB in 1991 and became full professor in 2004.
