Strong UK participation at CABSAT 2002

A large number of British companies will exhibit at the 8th Middle East International Cable, Satellite, Broadcast & Telecommunications Exhibition (CABSAT 2002) organised by the Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC) from March 5-7 at the DWTC exhibition complex.

The UK participation at CABSAT 2002 is expected to be larger than ever. "So far, more than twenty UK-based broadcast, cable, satellite and telecommunications companies have confirmed their participation in the exhibition and we are expecting more in the weeks ahead. The larger UK presence at the show this year highlights the level of confidence the exhibitors have in the event and the excellent business networking opportunities the show offers in the region," said Vijay Menon, International Project Manager, DWTC.

The rapid growth of technology, e-commerce and media-related business within the UAE and the Middle East region is paving the way for a range of new business opportunities in the broadcast, telecommunications and media technologies. In its 8th edition, CABSAT 2002 will be an ideal platform for companies and professionals from across the world to explore the business potential of various new broadcast, telecast and telecommunications technologies in the Middle East.

The UK pavilion at the CABSAT 2002 includes Motorola, one of the world's leading mobile phone providers. It recently launched its Global Packet Radio Service (GPRS) enabled mobile handsets in the Middle East and North Africa, signalling a new era for the region's telecommunications sector. Many Telecom service providers are expected to offer commercial GPRS service in the near future which is expected to enhance the data transfer speeds more than ten times faster than the GSM technology. The GPRS along with new digital compression techniques offers a host of business opportunities in broadcast, telecasts and large-scale data transfers.

Encoda Systems, from the UK will exhibit its integrated and effective solutions for programme planning, airtime sales and multi-channel delivery at CABSAT while Quantel, another leading UK-based company will showcase the latest editing technologies including multi-format, multi-resolution post-production platforms.

CABSAT 2002 will also feature the latest in cabling technologies from around the world. Rydex/CDT, a leading manufacturer of telecommunication and data network cable for switching, transmission and wireless applications will exhibit cabling systems for the latest protocol and exchange equipment at CABSAT 2002. Other leading UK-based companies at the show include, Continental Microwave Ltd, CP Case, Harmonic, LSI Projects, Project Departments Ltd, Questech International, Soundcraft, Tandberg Television, TIA, Trimedia, Innovation Europe, Europe Star, Leitch Europe, Nettest Ltd, Quartz, Sinclair, Tandberg Television, Trade Fair Support and Vinten Broadcast Ltd.

In its previous edition the CABSAT attracted 168 exhibitors and more than 4,500 trade professionals. The show this year is expected to surpass these figures in terms of visitors and exhibitors.
