In addition, matters associated with the radio spectrum resources necessary for IMT-Advanced were also discussed.
The WP 5D is the lead group at the ITU for the overall maintenance of existing and development of new recommendations on IMT-2000, also known as the Third Generation Mobile Systems (3G) and beyond.
Mohamed Nasser Al Ghanim, TRA Board Member & Director General, said:
'The UAE's hosting of the WP 5D reflects the TRA's contribution in establishing the role of the UAE in supporting the telecom sector regionally and internationally. This is the first time that an ITU event has been held in the Middle East. We hope to be given the opportunity to host many more meetings in the future. We thank du for sponsoring this meeting which emphasizes the global status of the UAE among the international organizations specialized in telecom and information technology.'

The meeting was a good opportunity to strengthen ties with many of our partners and also gave us exposure to the 193 members of the ITU.'
The event attracted 300 representatives from the third generation services providers, international institutions and corporations and their senior engineers and executives, senior officials from the ITU, and representatives from the UAE telecom operators and government bodies.
