Financial Brokerage Forum takes off in October

Under the patronage of H.E. Eng. Sultan Bin Saeed Al Mansoori, UAE Minister of Economy, Etisal Event Management organizes the 'Financial Brokerage in the Gulf' Forum and Exhibition (FBF) under the slogan 'Investment in a New Global Economy', on 14-15 of October, 2008, at the Rotana Beach Hotel, Abu Dhabi, UAE.
His Excellency, Mr. Abdullah Al-Turaifi, SCA CEO, said that the forum comes after extensive studies of market needs and the number of rules and regulations that have evolved to meet the expansion of the market. He pointed out that the forum will offer a platform for decision makers, regulatory authorities, officials, chairmen of securities firms and concerned parties in the field of financial brokerage to provide expertise and advice to all sectors working in the market for the objective of enhancing the level of services provided and reducing the gap between the viewpoints of the public and private sectors regarding brokerage in the GCC countries.
Mr. Abdullah stressed that the forum will provide a genuine opportunity to evaluate the progress financial brokerage companies have made in the Gulf and an opportunity to listen to decision makers and concerned parties in the field through the medium of working papers and topics that will be presented at the forum. The forum gives the opportunity to discuss suggestions relating to the present and future, and ways to deal with global changes in the financial market, he added.
The forum will discuss topics that include:
-Various aspects involved in developing the profession of financial brokerage and means of enhancing performance according to the best international practices.
-Ethics of financial brokerage profession and the importance of having a code of honor in the profession.
-The role of financial brokerage companies in creating an alliance between various companies and integrating them into the market.
-The number of licensed companies in the market compared to the size of demands and investments, and the need for more companies in the market to face the new economic environment.
-The relationship between financial brokerage companies and banks.
-Workshops relating to different aspects of the financial market.
Dr. Fadi Khalaf, Chairman of Beirut Stock Exchange (BSE), and one of the keynote speakers in the forum, said that the participation of BSE in the forum arises from its commitment to participate in economic events unfolding in the Gulf in general and in the UAE in particular, specially since the forum highlights many important topics in the financial and investment fields.
Dr. Khalaf emphasized that the timing of the forum is appropriate since it comes at a time when the region is witnessing rapid development and its consequences in the Gulf and Arab financial markets of the region. He said the forum gives the opportunity to all working sectors in the market to discuss cooperation and will help them find means to evolve practical solutions and build strategic partnerships that will raise the industry to higher levels.
Nada Jaber, Managing Director of Etisal Event Management, the company organizing and marketing the forum and exhibition, said that organizing a special forum on financial brokerage is a significant step to enhance and consolidate economic activities in general and the financial sector in particular. She pointed out the Etisal is working in cooperation with the SCA to create the necessary conditions to achieve the objectives behind the forum.
The participation of the managers of leading financial and banking institutions and companies in the forum reflects the wide interest in developing this field and the need to exchange expertise at the Arab and Gulf level, she said. She confirmed that the subjects discussed at the forum would be an ongoing process that will help the exchange of expertise and cement common interests.
Mrs. Jaber pointed out that the list of distinguished participants in the forum includes His Excellency Yahya bin Said Al-Jabri, CEO of Muscat Security Market, Dr. Fadi Khalaf, Chairman of Beirut Stock Exchange, Ambassador Mervat Tallawy, Coordinator General of the Arab Economic, Social and Development Summit at the League of Arab States, and Mr. Talal Abu-Ghazaleh, Chairman and founder of Talal Abu-Ghazaleh Organization, in addition to many financial experts and economic thinkers from the region.
