Abu Dhabi University to start offering new Masters programs this coming Fall

Starting this coming 2008-2009 Fall semester, Abu Dhabi University (ADU) will start offering a Masters of Education in Leadership and a Masters of Education in Teaching and Learning. These two MEd programs target students from the academic, education and leadership sector.

The programs are designed to prepare educators for the latest advances in the field of Education world-wide.

Graduates of the MEd in Leadership program will be able to demonstrate skills and attitudes required for effective team and school leadership at elementary, secondary and post-secondary education levels, while the MEd in Teaching and Learning will prepare current and aspirant lead teachers to manage successful learning in schools and classrooms.

Dr. Nabil Ibrahim, the ADU Chancellor, emphasized the significance of ADU offering these two programs, which underpins the University's strategy of offering a variety of postgraduate programs, which contribute to the development of the well-educated UAE human capital of the future.

The Chancellor added that "both programs received accreditation from the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research and applications for admission to both the MEd in Leadership as well as the MEd in Teaching and Learning programs are currently being accepted for Fall 2008/2009 semester. Dr. Nabil also said that the curriculum for the MEd in Leadership program will include 30 credit core courses and two credit elective courses."

"Some of the core courses will include: Introduction to Educational Leadership, Institutional Enhancement, Professional Development, while some of the elective courses will be: Philosophy of Education, History of Education in the UAE, Women in Leadership, Comparative Education, Qualitative Research Design," he added.

He also mentioned that "the MEd in Teaching and Learning will include 30 credit core courses and three credit elective courses. Some of the core courses will be: Teaching and Learning in Context, Evaluation and Assessment in Education, Classroom Behavior and Management, Outcomes Based Teaching, Learning and Assessment, Educational Futures, and some of the elective courses will include: Inquiry in Elementary Education, Advanced Study in the Teaching of Sciences, Advanced Study in the Teaching of Social Studies, Advanced Study in the Teaching of Mathematics."

Candidates interested in applying for these programs should meet the University's conditions for postgraduate admission and should hold a bachelor's degree in education from an accredited institution with an overall GPA of 3.0/4.0. Candidates should also score 550 on the TOEFL examination. In exceptional cases, candidates with TOEFL scores lower than 550, but no less than a TOEFL score of 530, may also be considered for conditional admission, contingent upon obtaining a TOEFL score of at least 550 by the end of the first semester. In addition, candidates should have a minimum of 2 years experience relevant to K-12 education; and once admitted into the program, candidates must maintain a 3.0/4.0 CGPA in order to remain in good standing.
