Ali Jaber named Dean of Mohammed Bin Rashid School of Communication at AUD

Media expert Ali Jaber has been named Dean of the Mohammed Bin Rashid School of Communication, which was established recently at the American University in Dubai (AUD) following the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.

The school was set up in collaboration between the (AUD) and the University of Southern California. MBRSC will be the first academic institution in the region to offer world-class and specialized graduate courses in various communication fields including; Journalism, Radio/TV/Cinema, and new media.

The Mohammed Bin Rashid School of Communication has been founded with the aim of attracting the brightest students from across the Arab world who aspire to become journalists and communicators and provide them with solid academic training.

Upon their graduation these students are hoped to contribute to the evolution of the media institutions in the Arab world and help rise with it to international standards of professionalism and quality.

In his capacity as Dean, Ali Jaber will spearhead the development of the school's curriculum and courses and lead the faculty to achieve the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid for the future of the Arab media industry.

Equipped with a wealth of professional and academic expertise, Jaber joined Dubai Media Incorporated (DMI) in 2004 as a media consultant. His work was key in the restructuring and re-launching of DMI's four national pan-Arab satellite channels: Dubai TV, Sama Dubai, Dubai Sports Channel and Dubai One.

Until 2003, Ali Jaber headed Lebanon's privately owned pan-Arab television channel "Future TV", which he was commissioned to set up in 1992.

His earlier career in media included reporting out of Lebanon and of Syria as Chief Correspondent for the German Press Agency (DPA) from 1987 to 1999. He has also worked as correspondent for New York Times and London's The Times between 1989 and 1994.

As an academician, he helped set up Beirut University College's Broadcasting Department and for eight years taught a range of courses in television production.

A graduate of Business Administration from the American University in Beirut, Ali Jaber has a Master's degree in Communications from the Syracuse University, US and is working on his Phd at Cambridge University in the United Kingdom.
