A highly sought after international lecturer and teacher, Dr. Toledo developed several innovative surgical techniques and instruments and realizes that not enough data and findings are published in the Middle East.

After more than two years of practicing in Dubai, Dr. Toledo started publishing his figures and his patients' statistics and reviewing them, it certainly seems as if he has been consulting the world, with patients from over 54 nationalities coming to his clinic.

Yet, considering the many different nationalities in the UAE it is the UAE nationals that lead the statistics.

Over 25% of Dr. Toledo's consultations are for UAE nationals, followed by 11% from the UK and 7% Lebanese. The percentage of male patients operating with Dr Toledo is 15% while worldwide numbers for men opting for aesthetic plastic surgery is 9% according to figures published by the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS) in New York in February of this year.

The most requested and performed procedure by Dr. Toledo over the last year was lipoplasty, the treatment of fat deposits, a procedure indicated for patients where a balanced diet paired with regular exercise shows little results.

Lipoplasty techniques include liposuction, where fat cells are removed through an aspiration device to reduce the shape of the body or face, liposculpture when fat cells are removed through a syringe and re-injected to augment other parts of the body and laser liposuction or smarlipo, when fat cells are first treated with a laser to improve skin retraction and then removed.

Lipoplasty represented 36% of Dr. Toledo's procedures, while liposuction also was number one in the United States of America with 456,828 procedures according to ASAPS.

The second most popular procedure with 12 % was rhinoplasty, known as the nose job, where the features of the nose are improved to enhance the aesthetic and the function of the nose.

Third and fourth place, with each 9%, were abdominoplasty or tummy tuck and rhytidoplasty, also known as facelift, respectively, while the fifth most popular procedure was breast augmentation with also 9%.

'The Middle East does not have enough statistics on surgery procedures and does not publish enough, locally and internationally. It is my opinion that our profession should lead and set standards' said Dr. Luiz Toledo.

Dr. Toledo has published and edited several books in the field of plastic surgery and published over 50 scientific papers in international publications.

As a Post-graduate Professor of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, he has lectured at more than 500 congresses and organized over 25 international congresses and symposiums.

Dr. Toledo advises patients to search for a surgeon who is a certified member of a plastic surgery association, so that the patient can feel confident that the doctor has undergone strict training as a reconstructive and aesthetic surgeon.
