The Lloyds TSB Small Business Awards ceremony will be held on 9th December in the Godolphin ballroom at Emirates Towers with 500 guests expected to attend this unique morning event.

After the phenomenal success of last year's Lloyds TSB Small Business Awards, the 2008 event will continue to raise awareness of the importance of small businesses to the UAE economy. As last year, the awards programme will recognise, support and reward entrepreneurs who have developed successful businesses. Any UAE based businesses with up to 100 employees and less than Dhs100m revenue is eligible to apply.

Graham Mitchell, Head of Business Banking for Lloyds TSB Group Middle East, said:

'We are determined to put small businesses at the forefront of the UAE's incredible success story and give the people behind them the recognition they deserve.

Last year over 150 companies applied to the Small Business Awards in order to receive this recognition of excellence and we expect just as many high quality applicants for 2008.'

The Lloyds TSB Small Business Awards will include the following categories, each sponsored by a successful company with a substantial influence in the UAE's business community:

- DHL - Outstanding Customer Service Award.
- Royal & SunAlliance - Innovation Award.
- 7 Days - Creative Promotion Award.
- KPMG - Business Growth Award.
- Links Group - Entrepreneurial Start-Up Award
And the overall.
- Lloyds TSB Small Business of the Year Award.

As with the previous years the judging process will be rigorous. Applicants are short-listed and then invited to present to the judges who will then select the eventual winners. The independent judging panel is made up of the CEO's, General Managers or equivalents of the sponsoring companies.

Bert de Ruiter Managing Director of Lloyds TSB Group Middle East, adds:

'Due to the support of our sponsors, judges, participants and the media, the awards are now a key event in the business calendar and, as with last year's event, we are looking forward to having plenty of fantastically interesting and innovative applicants. I wish everyone the best of luck in their application.'
