According to Mr. Saeid Heidari, General Manager:
"While the company has an important role to play in adopting green, we cannot be successful without associate participation. Focused on waste management, recycling programs, water efficiency, energy consumption, and associate education, we're looking to set an example."
Emphasizing the idea that 90% of office waste can be recycled, a recycling program, calls on participation from all associates. Cartoons, newspapers, white papers and mixed recycling are sorted and waste right from the desks.
Beginning early this year and intended to assist associates understanding Marriott's green efforts, several communication boards were placed in the back areas of the hotel. Recycling information, tips and facts, as well as successes and numerical data are displayed, highlighting the impact we have made on our waste stream.
"The greening of the Doha Marriott Hotel could not have found success without associate participation and dedication," explains Heidari.
Maintaining a constant focus on associate awareness and education, several internal messaging strategies, as well as interactive events have yielded excellent responses and results.
A team of approximately 10 volunteers known as the Green Champions have been identified throughout the hotel. Acting as green ambassadors within their respective departments, the Champions answer associate questions and assist with education, often targeting simple practices that can make a big difference (i.e. turning off lights, shutting down electronics, printing double-sided documents, etc.).
The Doha Marriott Hotel has also started an initiative to only change the bed linens every third day for extended stays unless the guest wishes to have them changed more often. Working together, we can conserve millions of liters of water, save energy and minimize the release of detergents into the environment.
Marriott's Global Green Vision:
Marriott International aspires to be the global hospitality leader that demonstrates how responsible hotel management can be a positive force for the environment and create economic opportunities around the world, especially in the communities where we live and work.
