2nd Convergence Shopper 2008 show kick off today with 15 leading organizations

The 2nd Convergence Shopper 2008, the first exhibition in Jordan to focus on presenting converged telecoms, media and Internet technologies to the public, will officially be inaugurated in Amman today, the 30th July 2008 by Eng Basem Rousan, Minister of Information and Communications Technology.

The three-day exhibition is taking place at the Zara Expo Centre in Amman with an official opening and preview. The show opens to the public on Wednesday 30th from 6pm to 10pm, and will be opened on Thursday and Friday 31st July and 1st August 2008 from 10am to 10pm.

HE Eng. Basem Rousan said:
"It must be noted that Jordan has attained many achievements in the ICT sector through the convergence of telecommunications and media, which would serve to open new markets and achieve further growth in the sector. Such exhibitions increase community awareness of the importance of the uses of technology applications in all aspects of life, towards a broader socio-economic development in Jordan."


"The Convergence Shopper exhibition aims at presenting the full range of new technologies that are being developed around today's high speed telecommunications networks and the rich content that is being carried across those networks," said Mr. Jawad Abbassi, Founder and General Manager of organizer Arab Advisors Group, a member of the Arab Jordan Investment Bank. "It's our aim to show how these converged products are now defining the future of learning, entertainment and business services. These technologies are the basis for the knowledge economy and we hope the exhibition will be instrumental in spurring uptake of ICT services amongst Jordan's households and businesses."

The 2nd Convergence Shopper 2008 has TE Data as the Gold Sponsor and Cyberia as the Official ISP. Exhibitors also include (In cooperation with Ministry of ICT): Zain, Orange, Signal Communications, Sony Ericsson, CDC, Arab Jordan Investment Bank, Click Jordan, Addustour Newspaper, Abu Mahjoob, Mass Jordan, Technoland and SAMIX. Together, these companies are to show telecom, Internet, IT, media and digital entertainment solutions under one roof.

The 2nd Convergence Shopper 2008 provides a one-stop-shop for a wide range of technologies, access devices and rich content solutions, including GSM mobile, fixed line, Internet, games, computers and hand held devices. The exhibition is a real guideline for the future of converged technology. Attendance is open for the general public at no charge and there are over 20 valuable raffle prizes for attendees who fill out their contact details.

Convergence Shopper follows on the heels of the Fifth Annual Media and Telecommunications Convergence Conference, which took place in Amman on the 2nd and 3rd June and which was booked to capacity with over 460 delegates representing over 160 regional and global companies from some 22 countries in the Arab World and beyond.
