SABEQ and Irbid Municipality sign MoU

USAID Jordan Economic Development Program (SABEQ) represented by Mr. Jamal Jabiri, Deputy Director, Office of Economic Growth at USAID Jordan and Irbid Greater Municipality's Mayor Mr. Abed Al Raouf Al Tal signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Tuesday July 29.2008 at Irbid Greater Municipality offices.

The cooperation between the Program and Irbid Greater Municipality will facilitate the implementation of the Program's various activities in the Governorate.

USAID Jordan Economic Development Program's (SABEQ) Local Economic Development (LED) team through the mind mapping exercise identified Irbid Municipality as a key implementer for the Local Economic Development process in the Northern region.

The resources available through the Municipality will assist in delivering and implementing projects which will have a direct impact on the Governorate under a clear strategy.

During the MoU signing ceremony, Mr. Jamal Jabiri stated:
"We are proud to be part of a signing ceremony which demonstrates the efforts and commitment between USAID Jordan Economic Development Program (SABEQ) and Irbid Greater."


"The development of a strategic plan will achieve economic sustainability by best mobilizing the available resources into projects," he added.

USAID Economic Development Program Enhanced Productivity component works directly with private sector firms, educational and research institutions, and national and local government to enhance the Jordan's competitiveness in a global market.

USAID Economic Development Program works at the firm, industry, and national levels to engage the private sector and organizations that support it to stimulate productivity, upgrade human capacity, and promote innovation as an integral part of Jordan's economic future

The USAID Jordan Economic Development Program (SABEQ) is a five year broad economic development initiative implemented by BearingPoint, Inc. and a sizeable team of international and Jordanian partner firms. By both supporting improvements in the business environment and providing assistance to expand innovation and productivity in Jordanian businesses, to support the main objective of building up the private sector as a powerful engine of economic growth.
