Solar island in RAK awaits

  • United Arab Emirates: Sunday, August 10 - 2008 at 10:01

An 85-metre circular solar panel in a desert near Ras al Khaimah city is expected to supply the energy needs of up to 200,000 homes. Centre Suisse d'Electronique et de Microtechnique, the company behind RAK's solar islands sees the project as a single gigantic island up to 5km across - or an archipelago of floating solar generators, stationed off the shore, cooled by the waters of the Gulf and rotating to track the Sun.
