Speaking to the media this morning, Brigadier Obaid Bin Suroor, Acting Director of DNRD, confirmed the department concluded an agreement with two insurance companies; Oman and Aman to issue health insurance policies for visitors of Dubai according to the ministerial decision number (322) for the year 2008 which implies the need for entry visa holders to get health insurance.

"The department received a number of proposals from several companies and appointed the companies that offered the most suitable offers and quality of services in order to streamline the procedures for all visitors and ensure a comfortable stay in the country," said Brigadier Bin Suroor.

The two companies will offer their services for visitors through a counter set at the DNRD's main headquarter at (Jaffliya) in addition to a number of counters located at DNRD external branches in Abu Hail, the Jebel Ali Free Zone, Dubai Airport, DANATA passports at Sheikh Zayed Street, Um Suqeim, Jebel Ali and Bin Souqat.

Acting Director of DNRD added that the system will be linked electronically with the DNRD main electronic "Online" services soon.

He added that the agreement reached with the two insurance companies adopted three different types of health policies according to the visit periods.

He also explained that these policies will cover accidents and emergencies during visitor's stay in the county and the medication will be carried out through a network covered by insurance companies in the country.

The beneficiary will receive treatment in a shared hospital room in case of emergencies. It indicated that the two companies will cover 100% of services to be offered to the patient throughout the network of the health services providers in the country including the hospital accommodation and the fees of diagnostics, surgery, anesthesiology and the aid for emergency situations leading to hospitalization in addition to medicines and drugs needed for treatment inside the hospital and the treatment costs and the costs of rehabilitation treatments and teeth treatment for damages caused by accidents during the certification valid period in the UAE.

Acting Director of DNRD said that this agreement obligates the insurance company to return the body of the insured person to his country in case of death paying certain costs incurred. He added that the agreement does not cover medical treatment outside the health services providers' network except in the case of emergency life threatening cases.

He clarified that the health insurance policy does not cover chronic illnesses and it will include treatment of the serious complications of already existing chronic illnesses in the emergency room only. It also does not cover situations of giving birth, pregnancy, and ophthalmology or teeth treatment.
