Mr. V.R. Nambiar (COO NMCT) launched the
initiative amidst presence of various eminent dignitaries.

Dr Vikram Sharma veterinary division head at NMC group says microchipping is an ideal technology for municipalities or rescue organisations to trace pets and reunite them with their corresponding owners.

The move was welcomed by Veterinarians in UAE as it will allow for Microchipping pets & registering their details. The municipalities and rescue organizations can scan the microchip id of an unclaimed pet & go through the database for their details. This will help reunite pet owners with their pets if they are lost or stolen. Registration will also have vaccination records of the pet which could be used in pet passport schemes etc.

A microchip, the size of a grain of rice is encased in a biocompatible glass, the same used in human pacemakers to prevent rejection from the animal's body and will last for the animal's lifetime. Each microchip carries a unique number that is logged onto a national database like ANIWORLDBASE. Against this number, information about the pet, its owner and a record of the pet's vaccinations are stored.

When a scanner is passed over the microchip, low frequency radio waves created by the scanner activate the microchip, allowing the unique number to be read. Microchipping has been around since 1989 and is widely recognized as the most effective and secure method to permanently identifying a pet.
