  • United Arab Emirates: Thursday, August 14 - 2008 at 10:53
  • PRESS RELEASE

HE Dr. Maryam Matar, Director General of the Community Development Authority (CDA), has been appointed Chairman of the Evaluation Committee of Dubai World Leadership Center's 'Rad-Al-Jameel' Corporate Social Responsibility Program, which will look to raise funds for charity during the Holy Month of Ramadan.

The program is an initiative by Dubai World Leadership Center involving the alumni of its Dubai Leaders program, the development initiative in association with Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, that aims to create and make available a talent pool of highly qualified management personnel to fulfill senior leadership positions that will take Dubai World to greater heights of success.

Rad-Al-Jameel will see the alumni split into eight groups, each of which will be required to conceptualize, strategize and implement a Corporate Social Responsibility program to raise money for a particular charity group such as the disabled, orphans, the poor, mental patients and others leading up to and during Ramadan.

Bedoor Khouri, Manager, Dubai World Leadership Center, said:
"Dubai World Leadership Center is happy to associate with Dr. Mariam Matar, Director General of Community Development Authority (CDA), who has been involved with social and community initiatives for a long time. The 'Rad-Al-Jameel' CSR Program seeks to come up with the best fund-raising plan to help charity so that it provides optimum benefit to the society in the Holy Month of Ramadan. It calls for very careful scrutiny and I am sure Dr. Matar's experience in the field and her sense of judgment will make our initiative a huge success."

Currently overseeing the newly-formed CDA, a government authority formed to meet growing community needs and to provide essential social services, Dr. Matar expressed her delight at being appointed Chairman of the Evaluation Committee.

She said:
"This is a wonderful initiative by Dubai World Leadership Center as it means that there will be eight concurrent charity fundraising programs happening during the Holy Month of Ramadan. It also fits in perfectly with the objectives of the CDA, as we aim to provide a social safety net for all the different communities co-existing in Dubai."

"Initiatives such as Rad-Al-Jameel, especially when implemented in Ramadan, provide the community with a sense of social cohesion and protection and these are two of our biggest priorities at the CDA. I look forward to seeing what the Dubai Leaders Program Alumni have to offer, and I hope the competition will encourage them to raise the bar higher in terms of creativity, organization and execution of these programs," she added.

Upon the completion of the fund-raising activities in Ramadan, the teams will present their project outcome to a panel of judges, sponsors, media and charity organizations, and the best team will be honored at an award ceremony in October.
