  • PRESS RELEASE

Dubai Municipality's Dubai Accreditation Centre (DAC) is all set to become a full member of the International Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation (ILAC), after the DAC has successfully completed a Peer Evaluation by ILAC, which is an international cooperation of laboratory and inspection accreditation bodies formed more than 30 years ago to help remove technical barriers to trade worldwide.

According to Amina Ahmed Mohammed, Director of DAC, becoming full member of ILAC means the test and calibration results of DAC-accredited laboratories would be accepted world wide thereby reducing technical barriers to trade such as the retesting of products each time they enter a new country.

"This will also help local industry and other stake holders to get internationally accepted testing and calibration results locally against cheaper prices and less turn-around time,"

said Amina.

She noted that the membership is expected to be according to DAC in October this year in Sweden, following an ILAC General Assembly meet. The ILAC Peer Evaluation team will submit its final evaluation report to ILAC Arrangement Management Committee which is responsible for advising ILAC Council for final decision making.

Amina added that DAC is the first and only accreditation body in the Gulf region which has cleared ILAC Peer Evaluation.

The ILAC Peer Evaluation Team was comprised of Mr. Ralf Egner, Deputy Head of German Accreditation Body DaTech as team leader, Mr. Alan Glover, Assistant General Manager of International Accreditation New Zealand and Mr. Kukuh S. Achmad Director of Indonesian Accreditation (KAN) as team members.

Amina thanked the senior management of Dubai Municipality for their continuous support and said this would be an honor for Dubai and the UAE to become the ILAC Mutual Recognition Arrangement (MRA) signatory along with other developed and developing nations.
