New German Business Centre in Dubai

According to the AHK, the centre is mainly intended to assist small and medium-sized German companies, which form the backbone of the German economy. Various first-class services will be offered including the arrangement of contacts with local firms.

At the opening ceremony, Dr Friedrich, the AHK representative, particularly called on German companies involved in IT, the media, environmental engineering and vocational training to step their commitment in the Gulf and set up permanent businesses in the UAE.

4th German-Arab Forum for Tourism
GHORFA, the German-Arab association for trade & industry, jointly with the Wal-Aamal Group and the German congress of chamber of trade & industry (DIHK) are preparing the 4th German-Arab Forum for Tourism to be held in Berlin on March 17, 2002.

Ministers of tourism, presidents of the chambers for trade & industry, directors of tourism and transport companies as well as hotel operators and economists from 22 Arab countries will discuss ways and means of a closer international co-operation, improvements of the tourism infrastructure, new destinations and new hotel projects.

The 4th German-Arab Forum for Tourism will be held within the framework of Berlin's ITB, the largest international tourism trade fair.

First German University abroad
The foundation stone has been laid for the first German university in a foreign country, the German University in Cairo. It is sponsored by the ministry of science, research and culture of Baden-Wuerttemberg and will be operated by the universities of Ulm and Stuttgart.

The first faculties will be opened in October 2002. The GUC will be based on a modern concept combining training and research in close cooperation with German and Arab agriculture and industry. It is hoped that these activities will prompt more German companies to invest in Egypt and other Arab countries.
