- PRESS RELEASE
The Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authorty (ASEZA) Chief Commissioner, His Excellency Engineer Husni Abu Ghaida signed on Monday August 17th, 2008, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with World Links Arab Region's Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Reem N. Bsaiso, whereby the ASEZA donated $196,000 to cover the training of 1044 trainers and teachers in the ASEZ and the Governorate of Aqaba areas.
This initiative comes as part of ASEZA's efforts to support education in line with the directives of His Majesty King Abdullah II, and develop a self-sustaining capacity and enhance community productivity through education and teachers' training. The signing is one of the numerous sources of support granted by ASEZA to the educational sector.
The World Links Teachers' Professional Development (TPD) Program, works on the classroom's level, as it trains teachers of various school subjects, to become facilitators and life-long learners, by gently and prudently changing their behavioral patterns, over two scholastic years. It trains teachers on how to effectively use advanced information & communications technologies (ICT) and gain new skills, such as critical thinking, problem solving, employing research techniques and working collaboratively within groups. The Teachers in turn pass over these new acquired skills and techniques to their students, who immediately gain these new skills and start producing advanced and online content.
The signing of the MoUs shows the common interest of the Ministry of Education, ASEZA and World Links Arab Region in cooperating to bring valuable technology skills to teachers and students as they build a community of life-long learners and knowledge economies. World Links Arab Region is also currently implementing its program in Yemen, Syria, Lebanon and Palestine, and will be expanding in five more countries as it aims to reach more than 10 millions Arab youth during the next few years.
