During its twenty year support as an Olympic partner, Panasonic has progressively developed new technologies to deliver the best viewing experience to global audiences, both in the home and at the games venue, while reducing pollution through its eco products.
While making sure each successive Olympic Games is increasingly 'greener', the advanced technology has allowed Panasonic to reduce energy consumption and recyclability to its lowest at this year's games.
The ASTROVISION panels, the large scale screens provided at the venues for audience viewing, have had high intensity LEDs (Light Emitting Diodes) installed to replace the older fluorescent tubes, reducing power consumption by more than 75%.
The P2 cameras used at the games to record moments of sporting history now records onto solid-slate memory cards, instead of tape. This alone reduces CO2 emissions drastically by 1.5 tons.
For all the spectators at home watching on the latest plasma screens, the lead that was previously used in each panel has been reduced to zero and replaced with panels based on the alternative metal bismuth. These new panels cut annual power consumption approximately in half, while producing twice the brightness and clarity of Panasonic's previous plasma TVs.
Panasonic Marketing Middle East Managing Director, Seiji Koyanagi, is proud to label Panasonic eco-friendly.
Koyanagi said:
"While many people see Beijing as less than eco-friendly following its reputation as one of the worlds most polluted cities, Panasonic has done everything possible to ensure that it fulfils a social responsibility to contribute to a greener Olympic Games through its new eco products."
